Question who can explain to me how to put on compression stockings on an 87 year old man.?
these stockings are very tight. is there a nurse available who can help me? is there a devise that could help me get these stockings on more easily? i am 76 and find it extremely difficult to help my husband get these stockings on. any suggestions?

Best Answer You start by rolling the stockings down to the feet, put toes i n first and then gently roll the stockings up the leg. Do both feet & legs at the same time, alternating by rolling one and then the other. Good luck to you and I hope this will work.

Best Answer It depends on what kind of stockings you need. I see that your a guy...so am I. BUT I have to wear thigh high/waist high stockings...not knee high. If your doctor can write you a prescription, then you could get them custom fitted. (I did that, BUT I had to stick to one brand of hose, so I usually just go online to buy them). Im 24 and I sit all day in class and work...and I wear 20-30mmgh --sometimes 30-40mmgh thigh hi's / waist hi stockings...the ones that come up to my calf (knee hi) actually do not help me at all -- in fact, I think they make my legs feel worse with them on...BUT honestly man, the stockings really do make a difference in how your legs feel during the day. fyi* the 30-40mmgh is more compression on the legs...and you might wanna ask a doctor before you go above the 20-30mmgh pressure mark. I think if you really wanted just to alleviate tired legs you should go with the 8-15 or 15-20mmgh pressure hose. BUT with that said, I wanted to inform I had a blood clot in my leg about a year ago...so I kind of have to wear them everyday now. And I was told to wear thigh hi/waist hi stockings. for sizing, it depends on what kind of stockings you're getting...knee hi's are a little bit more trickier than thigh hi's or waist hi stockings. I have been told to never buy a bigger size than what you normally would wear. If you are getting knee hi stockings, make sure they come up right above the calf -never above the knee or you will get HORRIBLE HORRIBLE pinching between the knees. follow the sizing chart when you measure your calf. for thigh hi's, its always good to get the stay up "beaded band" stockings. (make sure they are not soft top unless you wanna wear a garter to hold them up -which garters are stupid, ha) -and make sure you measure your thigh correctly (a half inch below the buttocks cheeks) -and follow the sizing chart correctly...like for say your the highest point on your thigh is 29 inches around, then more than likely it will be a size large or x-large most of the time for any brand. waist hi sizing is probably the easiest for me...most brands will have either a mens waist hi stocking with a sizing chart or a unisex chart for female and males. I just pick my waist size and viola---make sure you also pay attention to height if they have a height on the chart. As some can be too long but fit the waist perfectly. -waist hi stockings also seem to last the longest for me. no lie! ok now for some more advice, you will get a cheaper price for stockings online that you do at drugstores or medical supply stores. -the brand of hose kind of matters also. I have only worn Ames Walker, TruForm, and Jobst stockings. Check out these websites...I get mine from all these places: Amazon -you could possibly find some really really cheap stockings on here.
