I am 14 weeks and I have noticed my feet are swollen. I work in an office and sit all day long. Today I had to go home for sandals because my sneakers were too tight. And even my sandals feel tight. Did you experience this? Should I be worried?

Best Answer What you're experiencing is edema — that's when excess fluid collects in your tissue. It's normal to have a certain amount of swelling during pregnancy because you're retaining more water. Changes in your blood chemistry also cause some fluid to shift into your tissue.In addition, your growing uterus puts pressure on your pelvic veins and your vena cava (the large vein on the right side of the body that carries blood from your lower limbs back to the heart). The pressure slows the return of blood from your legs, causing it to pool, which forces fluid from your veins into the tissues of your feet and ankles. Edema is most often an issue during the third trimester, particularly at the end of the day. It may be worse during the summer.You can help relieve the increased pressure on your veins by lying on your side. Since the vena cava is on the right side of your body, left-sided rest works best.After you have your baby, the swelling will disappear fairly rapidly as your body eliminates the excess fluid. You may find yourself urinating frequently and sweating a lot in the first days after childbirth. A certain amount of edema is normal in the ankles and feet during pregnancy. You may also have some mild swelling in your hands.Call your midwife or doctor if you notice swelling in your face or puffiness around your eyes, more than slight swelling of your hands, or excessive or sudden swelling of your feet or ankles. This could be a sign of preeclampsia, a serious condition.Also call your caregiver if you notice that one leg is significantly more swollen than the other, especially if you have any pain or tenderness in your calf or thigh. Here are a few tips: • Put your feet up whenever possible. At work, it helps to keep a stool or pile of books under your desk. Question Swollen Feet?
I feel as though I am doing all of the right things suggested by my doctor and other pregnant woman to keep my feet from swelling up like water balloons... but alas.. it still happens... Lately my feet and calves are swelling up to the point that it is extremely painful to walk.. And suggestions or quick fixes to reduce the swelling and discomfort? Unfortunatly... my life does not allow for me to sit around and relax as much as I would like. My husband fell off of a ladder two stories up and broke both arms and wrists.. He is unable to do anythng at this point in time.. we also have a 4 year old.. so I have to take care of everything in the house right now. CHLOE: MY husband is not "trying to get attention or get out of doing things".. He is in a great deal of pain. When he hit the ground the bones broke and puntured through his skin in several places.. He has lots of nerve damage and can barely feed himself. Additionally I can't quit working or hire a maid as we are living off of one income right now. I appreciate your suggestions, but what an awful and judgemental assumption for you to make about my husband.

When lying on a sofa or in bed, prop your feet up on pillows; when sitting in a chair, place your feet on a footstool. (This also helps prevent back pain.) Here are some more tips: •Don't sit for long periods of time. Make it a point to get up and walk for a few minutes of every hour. •Wear full-length support stockings as often as possible, and avoid socks with tight bands around the calf or ankle. •Exercise helps. Water aerobics are ideal because the "hydrostatic" pressure helps distribute fluids that have pooled in your feet. •Ask your partner, if you have one, to give you a foot massage. It will increase circulation and help disperse the edema. •Increase your fluid intake. It seems counterintuitive, but the more water you drink, the less swelling and water retention you'll experience. •Don't squeeze your feet into ill-fitting shoes.
